The famous Hollywood actress Alicia Silverstone shared the secrets of her fabulous body with the world through a book called ‘The Kind diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet’.
Through this book, Alicia shares with her readers tips on how to look great while not upsetting the fragile eco system. Alicia Silverstone formulated a diet that would be ‘kind’ on our bodies and the planet through the food choices we make.
The Kind diet plan encourages people to lose weight and become slim by avoiding animal products (for ethical reasons) and processed food items. Instead of eating a meat based diet she encouraged people who want to lose weight and be healthy to eat a diet which is rich in plant products.
Alicia Silverstone goes on to write in her book that a vegan diet would put less pressure on the planet- as less water, fuel and other resources are needed to grow crops - while ensuring that we lead a healthy life.
Most people feel that only dishes prepared from animal by products are flavorsome. However this is just a misconception. Nuts, beans, soy products and vegetables can be prepared in an equally delicious manner while being extremely good for health.
The kind diet is broken down into three phases. The first phase of this diet plan is known as the ‘flirt phase’. In this stage, individuals are encouraged to change their eating habits, from a predominantly meat based diet, to one where good portions of vegetables are included in the daily meals. At this stage the participants in the Kind diet plan can see a decisive change in their appearance, general well being and weight.
From the initial flirt stage, individuals on the Kind diet move on to the stricter ‘vegan phase’. In this phase, the participants totally give up meat based food products (including by products, like dairy items) and instead concentrate on eating a vegan diet, which is rich in vegetables, whole grains, fruits and soy products.
The final phase of the Kind diet, known as the ‘superhero phase’ is also the most drastic stage of this diet plan. Participants give up processed food items completely. Sugar, white flour, caffeine, alcohol and even fruits which are high in natural sugars and carbohydrates are eliminated from the daily diet.
